PLAN LIST

Tokugawa Art Museum/Tokugawaen

Museum/Tokugawaen was built as a retirement home for Mitsutomo Tokugawa, the second lord of the Owari Tokugawa domain. Later, in 1935, the Tokugawa Art Museum opened as an art museum that housed the so-called “Daimyo Dogu”, treasures passed down to the Owari Tokugawa family, a feudal lord from the Edo period.
At the time, the adjacent Tokugawa Garden was approximately 44 hectares in size, and it is said that 16 boats were floated in the pond within the garden.

Sououji

Sououji Temple is the family temple of Sououin Okame no Kata, the concubine of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the birth mother of Tokugawa Yoshinao, the first lord of the Owari Tokugawa domain.
The first feudal lord, Yoshinao, set aside an area of 10,000 square meters in what is now Yamaguchi-cho, Higashi-ku, and built it as a memorial for his birth mother, Sououin Okame no Kata. In 19327, the main hall, main gate, main gate, bell tower, and shoin (Suruga Palace) were moved from Yamaguchi-cho, Higashi-ku to Shiroyama-cho, Chikusa-ku. Even now, the valuable architecture that evokes the atmosphere of the time of its founding, as well as plaques handwritten by Yoshinao and a portrait of Okame-no-kata, remain.

Edomae sushi “Kanou”

Sushi Kanau, located next to Sououji Temple, is a famous Edomae sushi restaurant that requires reservations. The mature ingredients and skilled techniques are top notch.
Mr. Kanou will make a special trip to the Shoin of Sououji Temple and have you make it right in front of your eyes.

Koshoji

Yagoto Koshoji Temple was built by the second lord of the Owari domain, Mitsutomo Tokugawa, as the family shrine of the Owari Tokugawa family.
The precincts include Nishiyama, where the main hall is located, and Higashiyama, where Fumon-in and Okuno-in temples are located, and valuable natural forests remain. You will experience history and Japanese culture, such as meditating at Chikusuitei, which has a tea room, dedicating a gomaki tree, and holding fortune slips.
